Dr Maharaj did her MBBCh through Wits University, in Johannesburg. She specialized at Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town where she obtained qualifications through the College of Nuclear Physicians of SA (FCNP), thereafter obtaining her Masters in Medicine (MMED) through Stellenbosch University. In 2021 she has achieved her qualification in the Fellowship in the European Specialist Board of Nuclear Medicine (FEBNM).

She currently heads Imaging and Therapy Center's in the Kwa Zulu Natal province and offers Nuclear Medicine therapies in Thyroid, Neuroendocrine tumours, Prostate cancer, bone metastases and radiosynovectomy. Performs PET/CT imaging including onsite Ga68 radiopharmaceuticals for imaging Neuroendocrine and Prostate Cancer. She is a Chapter Head in Volunteer Medical Corps, who assist in Medical and Humanitatiran aid globally.
